I Love My (Curly) Hair

MIND SOUP: I really do. I love my mane of long, thick curly hair. It wasn't easy having long, curly hair in Lebanon. People would always bug me about it. "Why don't you straighten it?" "It's boring that you always keep it curly, why don't you change the look?" "You would look so MUCH better with straight hair."

I didn't want to waste my money at the hairdresser (and damage my hair) to straighten my hair, not to mention all the products I'd have to buy. But apart from that, my hair is who I am. I make the best of what I have and what I have is curly hair. If you have naturally straight hair, then flaunt it! I see nothing wrong in that. I just would get so annoyed when people would bug me about embracing what I have. Now that I'm an adult, I'm glad that I kept my hair curly. The girls in my high school and in undergrad ended up giving into pressure and now have straight hair. Every year, I'd see another girl give in and try to look like everyone else. Next, they'll get a nose job and they'll look like every other boring Lebanese girl.

And that's sad! Be who you are. Love what you've got and make the best of it. And if anyone makes you feel bad for embracing who you are (whatever part of you that you embrace) then keep watching this until it makes you smile.

  1. Couldn't agree with you more... besides how did they ever reach the conclusion that curly is boring??? If anything, straight is boring, cause it's JUST STRAIGHT! Curly is interesting and fun, it's all over the place and it's always different. :-)

  4. Ugh! I hate the "ma beddik trattbe 7alik lal event!" I was going to straighten my hair for my brother's engagement, but the hair-dresser refused! He kept my hair curly and put it up in such a beautiful way.

And Moudz, you have curly hair too! Embrace it :P

  5. Inspiring post. Be proud of who you are. Besides, straight hair is out, and beautiful wild curly hair is in!! Even girls with straight hair are putting curls in the hair! The bigger question is, why aren't more people satisfied and happy with themselves like you! You go girl!

  6. Thanks, Danielle! While I'm glad that people are embracing curly hair, I agree with you in that people should just accept themselves - curly, wavy, straight, blond, brunette, or redhead :)

  7. I like my strawberry blond hair--naturally that way, kinda curly or something. I am PART Ukrainian and my kinda curly strawberry blond hair matches my brown eyes--naturally sexy with darkest brown.
